HISTORY
Calvary Baptist Church was established out of the Ashburn Baptist Church of Chicago on February 5, 1961 under the leadership of Pastor Vernon Lyons. Calvary Baptist was organized because the Orland Park and Tinley park areas were the, " Beginning of the two suburbs with no fundamental church work." Now for over four decades the work of Gospel evangelism, scriptural baptism and the contending for the fundamentals of the faith has been carried on by faithful pastors and church members.
Today, Calvary Baptist Church is still actively carrying out its mission. We exist as a new Testament church of Jesus Christ to preach the Word for the evangelization of the lost and the edification of the saved. We stand on the absolute authority of the Bible (KJV). Without fear or shame, we expect to be salt and light to hold back corruption and drive back the darkness of sin in our community. Where sin, crime, violence, sexual immorality, divorce, abortion, and pornography etc. abound, we will faithfully offer the water of life to all who thirst for God's deliverance through Jesus Christ the Lord.
Pastor Tim Spitsbergen came to Calvary Baptist at the end of 2005. He had previously worked in youth ministry and church planting in Michigan. He has a bachelor of Arts degree in Youth Ministry for Pensacola Christian College and a Master of Ministry degree for Pastors from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. He is well equipped to preach, counsel and minister to people of all ages from the Word of God.
